Plans for a new AI data center in Taiwan have been announced, though few details have been revealed.

Zettabyte this week announced a strategic partnership with Wistron Corporation, a technology service provider, to build Taiwan's first hyperscale AI data center.

Further details, including timelines, location, or facility specifications, weren’t shared.

Kenneth Chung-Hou Tai, chairman of Zettabyte, said: "We are thrilled to partner with Wistron Corporation in this groundbreaking venture. By combining our expertise and IaaS software, we aim to create a world-class AI computing facility that will drive innovation and growth in the AI sector, not just in Taiwan but across the entire Asia Pacific region and the Middle East.”

Simon Lin, chairman of Wistron Corporation, added: "Wistron is excited to collaborate with Zettabyte to build this Hyperscale AI Data Center using the most advanced liquid cooling AIDC systems. Our shared vision and commitment to advancing AI technology in Taiwan will significantly contribute to the growth of Taiwan's AI ecosystem and its standing on the global stage."

Zettabyte describes itself as “Asia's leading AI data center software and systems technology provider.”

Little information about Zettascale is available online. Kenneth Chung-Hou Tai may be the same Kenneth who is on the board of directors at Chinese data center firm Vnet (formerly 21Vianet).

Founded in 2001 and based in Taipei, Wistron Corporation is an original design manufacturer supplying servers and switches.

The likes of Vantage, Empyrion, and NTT have or are developing data centers in Taiwan.

Apple is reportedly looking to develop a data center in Taiwan. Other major international companies developing in Taiwan include Google, Amazon Web Services (AWS), which shared plans for a Taipei cloud region in June 2024, and Microsoft.
