A new data center campus is being planned in Fayette County, Georgia.
As reported by the Citizen, the Tyrone Town Council will meet this week to discuss a request by the Fayette County Development Authority to annex 145.5 acres of undeveloped land north of the town. It also wants to change its zoning to Business Technology Park.
The site would be home to ‘Project Rita’, a proposed development of two one-story data center buildings totaling 490,000 square feet (45,520 sqm), and an on-site substation. The campus would total 96MW.
Tyrone staff have recommended approval of the request with conditions.
Reports of Project Rita surfaced back in November, when a DRI application was filed with the state. It’s unclear which company is behind the project.
The site lies to the west of Ga. Highway 74 between Kirkley Road on its south boundary and the Fulton County boundary/Fairburn city limit on its north side.
Tyrone – located some 30 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta – would have 146.4 acres within its boundaries, and the city of Fairburn would have 14.5 acres within its city limits.
Atlanta is a major data center hub, with many developments clustered around Fulton and Douglas Counties. QTS is planning a large data center campus near Tyrone in Fayetteville.
