APAC data center firm AirTrunk is to develop a second facility in Hong Kong.
The Macquarie-backed company this week announced plans for AirTrunk HKG2 (HKG2), a 15MW data center located in the East New Territories. The 11,600 sqm (124,860 sq ft) facility will offer 4,400 sqm (4,7360 sq ft) of technical space and have a PUE of 1.25.
HKG2 will be a retrofit of an existing building. Initial capacity is expected to be delivered to the anchor tenant in mid-2024.
AirTrunk deputy CEO, Michael Juniper, said: “As a key international business hub, Hong Kong has ambitions to accelerate the development of a digital economy. Combined with the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, there is huge demand for cloud services and the supporting critical digital infrastructure. HKG2 will play an important role in responding to this demand.”
The company’s first Hong Kong data center, HKG1, opened in late 2020 in the West New Territories. HKG1 offers 20MW across 8,000 sqm of technical space. Last year the company announced plans to power the facility using biomass energy from a plant at a landfill.
Microsoft is a customer at the original Hong Kong data center.

As well as Hong Kong, AirTrunk has data center campuses in operation and development in Singapore; Tokyo, Japan (x2); Johor, Malaysia; Sydney (x3), and Melbourne, Australia.
