Applied Digital has signed a long-term retail electric agreement with TerraForm Power for its 200MW data center in Garden City, Texas.
The agreement will see Applied Digital using wind power produced in Texas by the Brookfield-owned power company.
The data center and the wind farm, which is located in Glasscock County, are directly interconnected.

The Garden City data center was officially powered up on November 28 during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In November 2022, Applied's Texas subsidiary, Rattlesnake Den, took out a $15 million loan for the construction of the data center which matures in April 2028. At the time, reports suggested that the site would be used by bitcoin miner Marathon Digital (taking up 90MW of capacity).
Currently, 42 people are employed by the Garden City facility.
Applied Digital, previously known as Applied Blockchain, designs, develops, and operates data centers across North America targeted at high-performance computing workloads. According to the company, the Garden City data center brings its total IT capacity up to 480MW. The company also has data centers in Jamestown and Ellendale, North Dakota.
Previously a bitcoin mining company, Applied shut down its mining operations in March 2022 thus initiating the name change. In its latest quarterly earnings, Applied reported a total revenue of $36.3 million with an adjusted EBITDA of $10m.
