The 18,000 square-meter (193,750 sq ft) plot is located 6km from the company’s existing Barcelona facility, close to the Barcelona Cable Landing Station.

Full specifications weren't shared, but the company said initial power is already secured and will deliver 10MW by 2027, with the potential to expand to 24MW.

“This expansion in Barcelona is another stride forward in our mission to develop sustainable capacity in fast-growing European markets. We’re thrilled to continue building our presence and serve more customers in one of the continent’s most dynamic and best-connected digital hubs,” said Tesh Durvasula, CEO of AtlasEdge.

AtlasEdge was formed as a joint venture between telecoms company Liberty Global and digital infrastructure fund DigitalBridge in 2021, using facilities from Liberty’s telecoms companies and DigitalBridge’s European Edge assets. Digital Realty has since invested in the company.

In November 2021, Atlas acquired twelve data centers across Europe – including one in Barcelona – from Colt Data Centre Services (DCS). The former Colt facility offers 6MW across 10,500 square meters (113,000 sq ft). Located at Carrer de l'Acer, 5, Baxtel reports the site was previously an industrial building known as Barcelona Steel and retrofitted around 2001. Principal Real Estate, the real estate investment team for Principal Global Investors, became the site’s landlord in 2022.

The company is also building two data centers in Manchester and recently launched a new facility in Hamburg, Germany, and acquired a facility in Vienna, Austria. It recently broke ground on a data center in Lisbon, Portugal.
