Infrastructure and digital services provider Cassava Technologies has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) dedicated unit, Cassava AI.

Headquartered in London, UK, it aims to bring AI capacity to markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, where Cassava Technologies operates.

Cassava AI will build on existing partnerships the company has with Microsoft, Google, Amazon Web Services, Anthropic, Oracle, Atlas AI, Cerebras, and Palo Alto Networks.

In a LinkedIn post, Cassava said, "We are proud to announce the launch of our AI business unit, empowering customers to adopt and use Generative AI services from the world’s leading vendors." It added that it has had partnerships with industry giants "since the advent of generative AI."

Hardy Pemhiwa, president and group CEO, said, “Cassava AI is headquartered in London and can already provide services in any of the 40-plus markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, where the Cassava Technologies group companies operate. Ahmed El Beheiry, a veteran technology and telecoms executive, will lead this business unit.”

Ahmed El Beheiry is a former CEO of Telecom Egypt and Cassava Technologies' current group chief digital & AI officer, and acting CEO of Liquid Networks.

The new AI unit will offer services covering data centers, cloud, cybersecurity, fiber connectivity, and renewable energy, and parent company Cassava Technologies has already trained 200 AI specialists to assist customers.

Cassava Technologies-owned Africa Data Centres (ADC) last month announced that it was expanding the capacity at its Cape Town data center in South Africa. The 6MW expansion went live at the end of July.

In June, ADC secured $109 million in financing from South African banking group RMB to help the company expand its capacity and meet cloud computing demand in the country.

Another business unit of Cassava, Liquid C2, collaborated with Google Cloud and Anthropic in March 2024 to deliver cloud, cybersecurity, and generative AI solutions across Africa. The company previously teamed up with Boston IT Solutions South Africa to deploy Microsoft Azure Stack Infrastructure in Africa.
