The platform streams real-time data and provides carbon accounting insights to its users, enabling them to understand and reduce their carbon footprint of their hosting platforms.

The data is collected from a variety of sources, including the Internet of Things (IoT), sensors, and system log information.

Regulations such as the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting EU Directive (CSRD) will require companies to report on their carbon usage in much more detail, and the DataTwin360 will enable this in real-time via a dashboard and 3D model.

Mattie Yeta, chief sustainability officer for CGI in the UK, said: “Through close collaboration with our clients, we have been able to identify the challenges they are facing when working towards their net zero goals. CGI DataTwin360 empowers organizations to accelerate progress against net-zero by bringing together complex data sets to make them understandable and ultimately actionable.”

CGI, founded in 1976, is an IT and business consulting firm. In August 2022, the company was awarded a three-year £19 million ($23m) contract by the UK's Ministry of Defence to run its data center services.

According to a 2014 publication, the company at the time had data centers in Canada, the US, Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and Australia.

The company does not share much information about the specific locations or capacity of the data centers, saying that the sites all have a "neutral" facade, and do not advertise their function or company name.
