Gambling infrastructure firm Continent 8 Technologies has launched a new data center in Petersburg, West Virginia.

It is the company's second data center in the state, joining a facility in South Charleston it opened in 2018.

The facility has been developed in partnership with the Seneca Rocks Regional Development Authority. It has been established to provide disaster recovery to the company's operations.

Limited information about the data center has been shared. DCD has contacted Continent 8 for further details.

Continent 8 is a data center provider specializing in the online gaming and sports betting sectors. The company has launched sites across the US as regulations have shifted state by state to enable such online activities.

In addition to launching the new site, Continent 8 has received regulatory approval in the state for its public cloud solution.

“We are thrilled to have added a second site, allowing us to expand our offering to include disaster recovery, as well as our approved public cloud solution in our original site, further establishing Continent 8 as the leading infrastructure provider in the North American market,” said Continent 8’s founder and CEO Michael Tobin.

According to the company, it has "significant investment" planned to further expand its presence in the US. The company currently operates in 30 states.

Earlier this month, Continent 8 went live in Vermont, via a data center in Burlington. This launch follows the state legalizing online sports betting in June 2023.
