Telco Companhia Santomense de Telecomunicacoes (CST) has launched commercial 4G services on the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe.

The operator revealed it's switched on its LTE coverage in all districts via a network of 102 antennas in 34 different locations, providing coverage to more than 90 percent of the population.

CST confirmed it's invested around $2.5 million in the new network.

The operator also revealed plans for a 1.5 Gbps link to be installed between the two islands, which it states will triple the current capacity, through one of the largest radio links in the world between islands.

Despite the launch of 4G services on the island, CST isn't the first operator to launch the service.

In May, Unitel STP launched the first-ever commercial 4G services on São Tomé and Príncipe after gaining approval from the General Regulatory Authority (Autoridade Geral de Regulacao, AGER) to launch the services on the island, which is just off the western coast of Africa
