CtrlS Datacenters has broken ground on its greenfield data center in GIFT City, Gujarat, India.
At the same time, the company announced that it would be investing Rs 250 crore ($30m) in the project, dubbed CtrlS Gandhinagar 1 DC.
Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendrabhai Patel, laid the first stone for the facility in the ceremony.
According to CtrlS, the data center (which will be designed to a Tier IV standard) will have the potential to create more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
According to Anil Nama, CIO of CtrlS, the data center is expected to be commissioned by 2025. The company has not yet decided on the size or IT capacity of the data center.
"Located in GIFT City, the data center will be easily accessible to all major clusters of the State. GIFT city is a global financial hub and home to several large international and national BFSI companies and is an ideal location for us," said Sridhar Pinnapureddy, chairman of CtrlS Datacenters.
In October 2023, the company announced that it would be investing $2bn over the next six years in expanding across Asia and the Middle East, intending to add 350MW of AI and cloud-ready hyperscale data centers.
The company currently has 234MW of IT capacity at its existing facilities. In November, the company announced plans for a 10MW data center in Uttarakhand, India. The company is also working on a 150MW campus in Thailand.
According to Siddarth Chennareddy, VP of global expansions and strategy of corporate at CtrlS, the company will be setting up five more data centers in India in 2024.
