Indian operator CtrlS Datacenters is building a new data center campus in Chennai.
Announced this week, the company will invest Rs 4000 crore ($482.5m) in the 72MW project. Construction is already underway.
Located in the Ambattur industrial area the site will offer 1 million sq ft (92,900 sqm) across two buildings, along with an on-site substation.
CtrlS said the first data center building – Chennai DC 1 – is fully booked, and will begin operations in Q2 2024.
The second data center building – Chennai DC 2 – is set to launch in the second half of 2024; the 10-story structure will offer 27MW.

CtrlS has facilities in Mumbai, Bangalore, Noida, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, with Edge locations in Lucknow and Patna.
In October 2023, the company announced that it would be investing $2bn over the next six years in expanding across Asia and the Middle East, intending to add 350MW of AI and cloud-ready hyperscale data centers.
The company currently has more than 234MW of IT capacity at its existing facilities. In November, it announced plans for a 10MW data center in Uttarakhand, India, and broke ground on a Gujarat facility in December. The company is also working on a 150MW campus in Thailand.
