Digital Realty's Interxion has acquired Altus IT, which operates a single data center in Croatia.

The acquisition marks Digital's first entry into the small country in southeastern Europe. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A global foothold

Altus IT's data center in Zagreb recently added the network nodes of leading global cloud service providers to its footprint, and has more than 100 customers, approximately 50 connectivity providers, and two main Internet exchanges. It offers 630 sq m (6,800 sq ft) of IT space across three buildings, with up to 10kW of cooling per rack.

"Altus IT's business strategy is closely aligned with our connectivity-centric and customer-focused approach," David Ruberg, Digital's EMEA head, said.

"Southeast Europe offers significant economic potential, and the acquisition of Altus IT represents an important step and our first gateway into that market. With the addition of Altus IT, we will be even better positioned to help new and existing customers continue to scale communities of interest."

The small company's senior executive team is expected to stay on. including current CEO Goran Đoreski, who will become managing director of Croatia. "We are delighted to enable a global presence for our customers in Croatia and to bring additional value by enhancing the availability and quality of our services," Đoreski said.

"This is a huge milestone, and we are excited to join the Digital Realty platform and open new opportunities for accelerated growth with our customers and partners."

Digital Realty now operates more than 280 data centers across 22 countries.
