A fire broke out over the weekend at a cryptomine data center in Québec, Canada.

Cryptomining firm Sato Technologies Corp. yesterday (June 2) reported an incident that occurred at its Center One data center on the night of Saturday, June 1.

The company said a fire broke out in the oldest part of the building housing the company’s computing equipment, which also suffered limited water damage as the fire suppression system activated.

A cause for the fire was not given.

Sato said the damage has affected approximately 40 petahash (PH) worth of equipment, out of the 560 PHs operating in Center One.

“Our dedicated team is working tirelessly to assess the full extent of the damage, including with our insurance companies, and to restore impacted operations as swiftly as possible,” the company said. “At this time, we are unable to provide a specific timeline for the complete recovery of the affected equipment.”

The company continued: “Sato’s top priority is the safety and well-being of our employees, and we are relieved to report that there were no injuries. Contingency plans are being implemented to mitigate service disruptions, and we will provide regular updates as the situation evolves.”

Founded in 2017, Sato (formerly known as Canada Computational Unlimited Corp.) offers Bitcoin mining hosting as well as AI/HPC hosting.

The company’s 20MW data center is located in Québec, Canada. A previous report suggested the site spans 25,000 sq ft (2,320 sqm) and hosts around 5,400 Bitcoin miners.
