KLON-02 is a 10MW data center that has been designed and built "to the highest standards of sustainability and efficiency," according to a LinkedIn post shared by the company on November 28. Work began on the data center in March 2022.

The data center, spanning 3,400 sqm (36,597 sq ft), will aim for a PUE of under 1.2. It is the company's second Nvidia DGX-ready data center in Harlow, and is capable of housing up to 1,800 racks of GPU-powered IT equipment across its four data halls.

The facility will be powered by 100 percent certified renewable energy, will use hydrotreated vegetable oil for backup generators, and will meet the BREEAM 'Excellent' certified criteria.

Kao Data chairman David Bloom said: "Today marks a significant step forward in Kao Data’s journey, and it’s rewarding to see our vision for the Harlow campus further evolving. As the data center industry reaches a major inflection point, it’s vital that UK Government ambitions to become a world-leader in AI and research are matched by world-class infrastructure, capable of supporting advanced workloads.

"Through the continued development of our high performance data center portfolio and our ethos for technical excellence, we believe that Kao Data will continue to play an integral role in the future of UK compute.”

The data center is fully commissioned.

Kao Data submits plans for Stockport, Manchester, data center

Kao Data has also submitted its plans for a data center in Stockport, Manchester UK.

The company first announced plans for the Stockport facility in May 2023, which have now been officially submitted.

The facility will provide 40MW of IT capacity and will require an investment of £350 million ($442.2m) from Kao Data.

As in Harlow, the company intends to power the data center with 100 percent renewable energy and hydrotreated vegetable oil fuel for its backup generators.

Spencer Lamb, Kao Data chief commercial officer, said: “Our new data center signifies a substantial investment in Stockport and Greater Manchester’s future digital infrastructure. This state-of-the-art facility will cater for the region’s evolving digital needs, supporting technological research, demands for AI, and economic growth.”

Kao Data was founded in 2014. The company specializes in high-performance data centers for advanced computing, and currently has a combined footprint of 55MW. The company houses the Nvidia Cambridge-1 supercomputer in one of its data centers at the Harlow campus.
