Monaco Telecom is to build a new data center as part of a residential development in the city-state.

Local press reports the Monaco municipal council this month gave the OK to the Atelier Boisson + Boisson Architectes (ABBA) project to develop a 10-story facility on a 1,100 sqm (11,840 sq ft) plot.

The €45 million ($48.4m) scheme, known as Larvotto Supérieur, will see 35 state-owned apartments and a basement data center built at 19 Boulevard du Larvotto.

The data center will reportedly take up two of the four subterranean levels and cover 1,550 sqm (16,685 sq ft).

Solar panels are set to be installed on the roof and the building will be connected to the seaWergie thalasso-thermal network, which uses seawater to heat and cool buildings.

Construction is set to begin next month, with a 2027 completion date.

Monaco Telecom is the telecom operator owned by Iliad’s Xavier Niel and the Principality of Monaco. The company reportedly operates three data centers currently.

The residential development is proposed as part of Monaco’s National Housing Plan.
