NTT has launched two data centers in the US, each capable of supporting 36MW of IT load.
The facilities in Hillsboro, Oregon and Chicago, Illinois are the first of a total of four data centers planned for the US this year. NTT expects to launch a new Silicon Valley campus and expand its Ashburn footprint later in 2021.

NTT continues RagingWire's US expansion
The Chicago data center is the first on a new campus which is expected to grow to 72MW across two facilities. The 19-acre site is around 25 minutes from the O’Hare International Airport.
The new 47-acre campus Hillsboro campus plans to grow to 126MW, with more than one million square feet of data center space (93,000 sq m). Carbon-neutral IT and renewable energy will be optional for customers.
“2021 is going to be a year like no other for our division and opening these two new data centers is just the beginning," NTT Ltd.’s CEO for the Global Data Centers division in the Americas, Doug Adams said.
"Not only will we continue to expand both the Hillsboro and Chicago campuses, but we’re also looking forward to our new Silicon Valley campus, expansion in Ashburn, as well as breaking ground in Phoenix. These efforts underline our commitment to put our clients at the center and bring data center services to key data center markets across the Americas.”
Adams was previously the CEO of US data center operator RagingWire, which was acquired by NTT in chunks from 2014 to 2018. It continued as a mostly independent business for some time, before being swallowed into the newly formed NTT Global Data Centers division in 2019, which also brought in e-shelter and NetMagic.
