Vitro, a subsidiary of ePLDT and the data center arm of telco PLDT Inc., has topped off its data center in Santa Rosa, in the Laguna province of the Philippines.

The company says that the 50MW data center is the first hyperscale facility in the country.

Dubbed Vitro Sta. Rosa, the facility is the largest data center campus in the country spanning a five-hectare property. The data center is Rated-3 certified, and Rated-4 ready, and has at least three fiber routes from PLDT and other providers.

The data center will also host the Philippines' "premier" Internet exchanges.

Vitro Sta. Rosa is anticipated to have an initial IT capacity of 10MW. According to the Vitro website, this is expandable to 36MW across more than 13,000 sqm (139,931 sq ft) of white space.

The data center is expected to be powered up shortly.

Plans for the Sta. Rosa data center were first shared in February 2022, with the company breaking ground the next month. At the time, it was described as a 100MW data center project.

“Vitro Sta. Rosa is a landmark achievement for the PLDT Group and the Philippines. A lot of hyperscalers have already expressed their interest in colocating in our facility. Once it is complete, we will continue to build more data center facilities ahead of demand to anticipate the future requirements of our customers as they accelerate the adoption of cloud and AI technologies,” said Victor Genuino, president and CEO of ePLDT and Vitro Inc.

Vitro was established by ePLDT in 2000. The company has 10 operational data centers with a combined IT capacity of 63MW.

In February 2023, PLDT was considering selling a "significant minority stake" in Vitro. At the, the company was expecting to be valued between $700m and $800m.

PLDT had previously considered a sale of the data centers in 2021 – valuing the business at around $500 million – but the process was later put on hold.
