PowerHouse Data Centers has expanded out of Virginia and into Nevada with plans for a new campus in Reno.

The AREP-owned company this week announced it has closed on the site of PowerHouse Reno; a three-building, 900,000 square foot (83,610 sqm) powered shell data center campus being developed in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRIC).

The campus will provide more than 65MW of bridging power, which is scheduled to be in place by year-end 2025.

PowerHouse was founded by American Real Estate Partners (AREP) and Harrison Street in 2022. The company currently has a data center campus in Ashburn, Virginia, which was leased to CyrusOne in May 2023, and is planning developments on two other sites in the state.

The company also recently gained approval for a data center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Tract last year announced plans for a 2,200 acre data center park inside the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRIC), located in Storey County. EdgeCore and Novva also have plans for facilities in the TRIC.

Switch is the largest data center provider in Nevada, with DataBank, EdgeCore, and Deep Edge also having a presence in the state.

Google launched a Nevada-based cloud region in 2020, with AWS launching a Las Vegas Local Zone in 2021. Apple operates a facility in Reno. Microsoft acquired around 275 acres in Silver Springs, Nevada, last year.
