Thai conglomerate Charoen Pokphand Group is reportedly exploring a potential sale of its data center unit.
Bloomberg reports the company's sale of True Internet Data Center Co. could fetch around $200 million.
Part of CP Group’s digital unit Ascend Corp., True IDC operates four data centers in Thailand and one in Myanmar.
Launched in 2003 as Ascend Group's data center, True IDC’s Thai facilities are located in Bangna, Muangthong, Ratchada, and Pattanakarn. The company opened a Mynamar data center in Yangon in 2015.
In 2018 True IDC formed a joint venture with SoftBank’s BBIX, Inc called BBIX Thailand to provide carrier-neutral and low latency Internet Exchange peering services in the country.
The news comes amid a number of potential data center sales in Asia Pacific. In the Philippines, telcos PLDT, Globe Telecom, and Ooredoo subsidiary PT Indosat are all reportedly looking to offload their data center businesses at the moment.
In April, it was reported that Hong Kong communications company PCCW was considering selling its data centers for $1 billion; they eventually went to DigitalBridge for $750 million and will be integrated into Vantage’s new APAC portfolio later this year.
In Singapore, Singtel is looking to sell off its data center unit as part of a ‘strategic reset’ and restructuring.
