Residents in Miami, Florida, have taken to the streets to protest against the installation of 5G cell towers within their neighborhood.

As reported by 7News Miami, residents in a Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood near Southwest 137th Avenue and Sunset Drive, held a rally over the emergence of the cell towers.

The protestors stated that the towers pose a risk to their health.

"The dangers of having the 5G small cell towers come in a variety of ways. I mean, decreasing home value,” said Lissette Monzon, a homeowner in the area.

“There’s not enough long-term research on having a small cell tower this close to your home.”

Some of the protestors held up banners stating that "5G causes cancer, neurological problems, and reproductive harm," while others expressed their concerns about the towers being unsightly.

5G cell towers have previously been targeted amid disproven theories that COVID-19 was caused by the technology.

This led to arsonists attacking these cell towers, with notable incidents in the UK, Australia, and the US.

During the height of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, there were several false conspiracy theories shared online suggesting that 5G was causing the spread of the virus.

It led mobile operators to urge the conspiracists to stop attacking the infrastructure and spreading misinformation on the Internet.

Last year a man in the US faced a sentence of up to 140 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to six counts of arson of cellphone towers and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.

Sean Aaron Smith made it his "mission" to burn down 5G cell phone towers, as per an affidavit.
