Australia's retail stockbroker CMC Markets plc is migrating to Hewlett Packard Enterprise's (HPE) GreenLake private cloud offering.

The partnership with HPE is hoped to modernize and enhance CMC's Australian operations and see the broker's infrastructure go through a significant transformation.

HPE GreenLake is a cloud-to-Edge offering that is deployed on-premises while giving users cloud capabilities. CMC Markets' will be transitioning to a cloud service model and via GreenLake will have access to the HPE ProLiant DL360 and HPE ProLiant DX380 servers, with HPE Alletra 9000 storage.

HPE Services will manage CMC's foundation IT assets, thus allowing CMC to focus on expanding its offerings.

"The need for a highly responsive and adaptable IT infrastructure is critical in the fast-paced financial sector," said Matthew Lewis, director of CMC Markets, head of APAC & Canada. "With HPE GreenLake, we are not only able to scale our operations more efficiently but also ensure that our trading platforms are always available and performing at their best to enhance our customer’s experience and maintain our competitive edge."

HPE GreenLake is further hoped to improve the performance and resilience of CMC's trading platforms to keep up with the competitive trading environment.

Chris Weber, VP and MD of South Pacific at HPE, added: "Our collaboration with CMC Markets is a powerful example of how HPE GreenLake can transform the IT landscape for financial services providers, offering them the flexibility to innovate and expand their services without being hindered by traditional IT constraints."

CMC Markets became a tenant in the ASX Australian Liquidity Centre data center in 2013, at the time cited as its first move towards cloud computing. This move was also touted as providing an opportunity for the company to move into high-frequency trading.

Other customers of HPE GreenLake include the US Defense Information Systems Agency, engineering group Danfoss, the UK Government's Crown Commercial Service, Barclays, and soccer team owner OL Groupe.
