New Zealand-based information management services provider Team IM is planning a "Team Cloud" that will use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
The company said its planned 'Team Cloud' will sit atop Oracle Alloy, and will be New Zealand's first locally owned and operated cloud.
Oracle Alloy is a cloud infrastructure platform that enables Oracle's partners to become cloud providers.
The Team Cloud will be run out of Team IM's two data centers in the North Island, both of which are Toitu net carbon zero certified. Based on the Toitu net carbon zero certified list, it seems likely that Team IM is hosting in CDC Data Centres' Auckland facilities.
“Organizations in New Zealand are increasingly eager to harness the power of the cloud while safeguarding the integrity of their data within their own shores by leveraging a unique hyperscale cloud solution,” said Ian Rogers, Team IM CEO.
“This announcement marks a significant milestone in our journey and transformation from a successful managed services provider to a cloud services provider, fortifying our strategic foothold as a New Zealand-owned and operated information management business."
The Team Cloud will be operated by Team IM, and all customer content will remain within the Team Cloud regions in New Zealand. Team IM will offer more than 100 OCI services to the government sector, its managed service partners, and other end users.
“In recent years, sovereign cloud has emerged as table stakes for enterprises as regulations and requirements evolved in New Zealand,” said Daphne Chung, research director, cloud services and software research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
“IDC’s survey also revealed that organizations in New Zealand see local (in-country) providers as being more advantageous when it comes to the cloud ecosystem, fulfilling digital sovereignty requirements and regulatory compliance. This will result in greater demand for local providers to address the market need for sovereign cloud services.”
Oracle Alloy was announced in October 2022. Once partners purchase Alloy and it is deployed, they effectively become a regional cloud service provider.
Microsoft and Google are both offering sovereign cloud solutions via partners.
