Founded in 1986, Infosat Communications is focused on distributing satellite connectivity to oil and gas, utility, and maritime customers in North America, particularly in Canada.

The first closing for the "vast majority" of the Infosat assets occurred on September 1. The rest of the deal will close in phases due to the required regulatory approvals.

Network Innovations’ co-CEO and group president, Derek Dawson, said: “We are honored that Telesat has selected Network Innovations for this transaction and we look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with this key satellite operator."

He continued: "Opportunities to acquire strong franchises and teams, such as those of Infosat Communications, rarely come along. Infosat’s expertise complements our own, especially with the diverse range of connectivity offerings including the latest LEO networks, and we are confident this acquisition will enhance the creation and delivery of reliable communication solutions and services to enterprise and maritime clients across North America.”

Established in 1989, Canada's Network Innovations provides connectivity integration services to governments as well as the marine, oil and gas, mining, utilities, and agriculture sectors.

SpaceNews reports Telesat CEO Dan Goldberg recently said the operator was considering selling a non-core business that makes annual revenue in the region of CAD$10 million (US$7.4 million).
