Teraco is building a new data center in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Digital Realty-owned company this week announced a 30MW expansion of its CT2 campus in Brackenfell.

CT2 Phase 2 construction has commenced, with the new capacity scheduled to be available in the first quarter of 2025.

Set over three levels, CT2 Phase 2 will comprise four data halls of 5.3MW, two data halls of 3.1MW, and a further two data halls of 2.2MW.

Teraco completed the first phase of CT2 at the Brackenfell campus in 2021. The first phase comprised 25,000 sqm (269,000 sq ft) of building structure, 8,000 sqm (86,100 sq ft) of data hall space, and 18MW of capacity.

At full build out, the 50MW, 73,000 sqm (785,765 sq ft) campus will span 18,000 sqm (193,750 sq ft) of technical space across 16 data halls. The campus features closed-loop chilled water systems that offers 100 percent free air cooling.

The CT1 facility in Cape Town’s Rondebosch area has 2,500 sqm (21,500 sq ft) of data hall space and 5MW of capacity.

Founded in 2008, Teraco operates seven other facilities in South Africa across Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban, totaling 75MW and serving more than 600 customers. Digital Realty acquired a majority stake in Teraco in January 2022, in a deal valuing the company at approximately $3.5 billion.
