UK colo firm Stellium Datacenters is to develop Submer’s immersion cooling technology at its data center campus in Newcastle.
Stellium this week announced a collaboration with immersion cooling firm Submer and petrochemical/immersion cooling fluid supplier ExxonMobil.
Under the agreement, Submer's immersion cooling technology will be integrated into Stellium Datacenters' infrastructure.
The size of the deployment hasn’t been shared. The immersion cooling infrastructure will use ExxonMobil’s DC 3235 Super cooling fluid.
Stellium and Submer said they will collaborate on developing and optimizing hardware solutions based on Open Compute Project (OCP) principles, contributing to the evolution of open-source hardware designs.

Located in Newcastle in the northeast of England, Stellium’s data center and cable landing campus currently spans 4,264 sqm with four 4MW data halls. Launched in 2021, the company said the site can offer up to 80MW and is designed to scale to 180MW. Last year the company announced plans to deploy solar panels at the campus.
Founded in 2015, Submer provides a series of indoor and outdoor single-phase immersion cooling pods. Its highest-capacity tank is able to provide up to 360kW of cooling. The company also offers larger-scale containerized pods housing multiple tanks.

ExxonMobil announced its move into data center cooling fluids in October 2023 with a “portfolio of synthetic and non-synthetic fluids” for keeping hardware temperatures down. It has previously partnered with Intel.
