Gary Aitkenhead

SVP, EMEA Operations, Equinix

Gary Aitkenhead joined Equinix in 2021 as Senior Vice President of EMEA Operations and is responsible for overseeing the operations of 80+ data centers, delivering mission critical platform solutions to customers in 20 countries across EMEA.

Before joining Equinix, Gary was Chief Executive of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory for the UK Ministry of Defence, playing a leading role in the transformation of Defence into the information age through advanced technology research and its application. Prior to that, Gary worked at Motorola as a senior global business leader in the mission-critical communications sector serving emergency services, utilities, and transportation users.

Gary grew up in Glasgow and graduated with First Class Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Strathclyde University. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. Married, with three daughters, Gary lives in Hampshire. His interests include cooking, the outdoors and mountain biking.
