James Snook

Director, Data Policy, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)

James Snook is a senior civil servant and the Director for Data Policy in the UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). In his current role, he is responsible for the UK’s domestic and international strategy and policy for data's use in our economy and society. This includes DSIT’s work on data protection and rights, cross-border flows of data, access to data as well as the growth, security and resilience of the data centre industry.

As part of the most senior, decision-making policy layer in DSIT, he helps set the UK’s policy direction on data use, AI, cyber security, digital infrastructure and online harms.
