An undisclosed artificial intelligence company will deploy 2.5MW of IT gear on Nautilus Data Technologies' floating data center.

Set on a barge, the facility in Stockton, California, uses river water to cool an inside closed loop system. The water leaves the CDU around 4°F/2.5°C warmer.

“Our commitment to supporting cutting-edge technologies reinforces our leadership in data center innovation,” Rob Pfleging, Nautilus CEO, said.

“The 2.5MW contract not only showcases the confidence in our advanced cooling systems, but also underscores our dedication to sustainability.”

The 7MW data center can support 20kW+ racks with a combination of rear door heat exchangers and direct liquid cooling. Last year, Backblaze contracted for 1MW at the site.

When we toured the facility with Pfleging, he told us that hyperscalers and colocation companies were interested in its technology - which can also be used in buildings adjacent to large bodies of water.

It has since signed partnership deals with Philippino IT firm DFNN, Thai luxury property developer Raimon Land, and Portugal's Start Campus.

The company is also building its own $300 million land data center in Maine.
