APAC data center operator Digital Edge has signed an energy partnership to secure renewable energy.

The Stonepeak-owned company this week announced it has entered an agreement with APAC energy firm Peak Energy to “pursue renewable energy production projects designed to power Digital Edge data centers across the region.”

The companies will jointly pursue an initial pipeline of 500 MW of operating capacity for both existing and planned data centers over a three-year period.

Peak Energy, another Stonepeak company focusing on solar, wind, and storage technologies, will target renewable energy projects in countries where Digital Edge has existing deployments, including Japan, Korea, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines, as well as future markets.

In total, the projects will support up to 1GW of power, and generate more than 1,300 GWh per year.

“We are thrilled to partner with Peak Energy to scale our renewable energy usage across the region as we strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030,” said Samuel Lee, CEO of Digital Edge. “Through this partnership with Peak Energy, we will be able to further build on these initiatives and advance our ESG goals.”

Peak Energy CEO, Gavin Adda, added: “Peak Energy is focused on helping corporates reduce their power costs and carbon footprints in a sustainable way. We look forward to expanding the existing relationship with Digital Edge for this exciting initiative. This partnership will foster the common business objectives of two rapidly growing companies throughout the Asia Pacific region.”

Founded in 2019, Peak Energy currently has 202MW of capacity in operation, comprising a solar farm in South Korea and another in Japan. With a current pipeline of 724MW across Asia, the company is targeting 1.5GW of capacity across Asia Pacific.

Digital Edge was founded by Stonepeak in August 2020. The company has acquired and developed data centers across Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Its current portfolio is comprised of more than a dozen data centers in construction or operation across the APAC region; including eight in Japan across Tokyo and Osaka; three in South Korea spanning Seoul, Busan, and Incheon; one in Manila, Philippines; and two in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is also developing facilities in India.

In China, Digital Edge has a partnership with local operator Chuanjun Information Technology, establishing its PEK1 data center in Beijing. The facility offers 7.8MW of capacity.
