361 acres of land in north Fort Worth, Texas, has been rezoned from data centers.

The land, which was never home to digital infrastructure, will now be used for residential and light industrial developments.

The 'Basswood 35' project is east of the I-35W, north of Basswood Boulevard, south of Thompson Road and west of Riverside Drive.

The land was zoned as "specific use for electronic data storage center," as well as some one-family, low density multifamily, and neighborhood commercial zoning rights.

It has been shifted to "one family, townhouse cluster, medium density multifamily, high density multifamily, community facilities, neighborhood commercial, general commercial, intensive commercial, and light industrial.

"We're excited to be here, it's a long time coming," Travis Clegg with Peloton Land Solutions, the engineering firm working on the project, said at a council meeting where the zoning change passed without dissent.

"In the past 20 years I have worked on this project and looked at it for developers, and nothing has stuck. Fortunately, this project has now gone to an RFP about 12 months ago," he added.

The land is divided into seven tracts, which may have different uses.

"We're looking forward to doing a park, some sort of soccer fields, in the middle of the development, but we haven't really planned that out yet," Clegg said. "Whatever we do will be in conjunction with our developers."

DCD has asked for further details about the project.
